Technical information about this website's accessibility

The Bayes Centre is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is largely compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard. Our most recent automated testing achieved a 99-100% accessibility score with 0 violations detected across all accessibility profiles.

The content listed below may present accessibility challenges for some users.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Third-party embedded content

  • Some forms embedded through Microsoft Forms may not have all fields programmatically determined. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.5 (Identify Input Purpose).
  • Embedded content from Dealroom (portfolio company database) may not be fully accessible with all assistive technologies.

PDFs and documents

  • Some PDF documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they're accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value).

Media content

  • Not all prerecorded video content has captions or audio descriptions. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.2.2 (Captions - Prerecorded) and 1.2.5 (Audio Description - Prerecorded).

We are actively working to address these remaining issues.

Disproportionate burden

We are not currently claiming that any accessibility problems would be a disproportionate burden to fix.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. We plan to review and update essential PDF documents to meet accessibility standards.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to continuous improvement of our website's accessibility:

Completed improvements (January 2026):

  • Implemented All in One Accessibility widget for user customisation
  • Resolved all automated accessibility violations (16 issues fixed)
  • Improved colour contrast ratios across the site
  • Added appropriate alt text to all images and icons
  • Corrected anchor elements and link content
  • Added descriptive titles to all iFrame elements
  • Removed empty heading tags

Planned improvements:

  • Comprehensive manual accessibility audit following domain migration to bayes-centre.ed.ac.uk (scheduled for early 2025)
  • Review and remediation of all essential PDF documents
  • Addition of captions and transcripts for video content
  • Enhanced keyboard navigation testing
  • Regular accessibility testing schedule (annual automated testing, periodic manual testing)
  • Staff training on creating accessible content

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 22 January 2026. It was last reviewed on 22 January 2026.

This website was last tested on 22 January 2026. The test was carried out by the Bayes Centre digital team using both automated testing tools.

Testing methodology:

We conducted automated accessibility testing using:

  • All in One Accessibility Scanner (Skynet Technologies)
  • Webflow-integrated accessibility testing tools

The automated testing covered:

  • 25 pages scanned across the website
  • WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level A, AA, and AAA criteria
  • Multiple accessibility profiles (Visually Impaired, Cognitive Disabilities, Motor Impaired, Blind, Dyslexia, Seizure/Epileptic, ADHD, Elderly, Color Blind)
  • Colour contrast verification
  • Alternative text for images
  • Link text clarity
  • Form labels and structure
  • Heading hierarchy
  • Keyboard navigation elements

Test results:

  • 337 automated checks passed
  • 0 violations detected
  • 39 checks marked as not applicable
  • 16 previously identified violations successfully remediated
  • Accessibility score: 99-100%

Important note on testing limitations:

Automated accessibility testing can identify many common accessibility violations, but only covers approximately 20-30% of WCAG 2.2 criteria. Some accessibility requirements cannot be reliably tested with automation alone and require manual testing by trained accessibility experts.

Following the domain migration to bayes-centre.ed.ac.uk, we will conduct a comprehensive manual accessibility audit in partnership with the University of Edinburgh's Disability Information team to ensure full compliance with all WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.
